The Quantity of Housing and Commercial Spaces Acquired by Ukrainians in Poland Economy January 22, 2025 Ukrainian citizens in Poland have emerged as some of the most active foreign property buyers during the full-scale war.
The infographic from “Slovo i Dilo” details the number of residential and commercial properties purchased by Ukrainians in Poland both before and after the commencement of the full-scale invasion.
In 2013, Ukrainian individuals acquired 18.5 thousand sq. m of residential space and 2.8 thousand sq. m of commercial space in Poland. Relative to the total area purchased by foreigners, Ukrainian’s share was 11.4% and 8.8%, respectively.
In 2014, Ukrainians purchased 24.1 thousand sq. m of residential properties (representing 14.2%) and 3.1 thousand sq. m of commercial spaces (9.5%).
By 2018, the acquisition by Ukrainians reached 109.6 thousand sq. m of residential area and 13 thousand sq. m of commercial space. This constituted 29.5% and 23.6% of the total area bought by foreign nationals that year.
During 2019, Ukrainian citizens procured 160.7 thousand sq. m of residential property (35.8%) and 16.3 thousand sq. m of commercial space (25.6%) in Poland. In 2020, these figures were 154.2 thousand sq. m (38.1%) and 13 thousand sq. m (25.6%), respectively. For 2021, the numbers were 244.9 thousand sq. m (42%) and 15.8 thousand sq. m (24.6%).
In the first year of the full-scale war, Ukrainians bought 328.2 thousand sq. m of residential units in Poland, alongside 22.3 thousand sq. m of commercial spaces. Their share of the total area acquired by foreigners rose to 45.1% and 30.5%, respectively.
In 2023, Ukrainians in Poland acquired 379.6 thousand sq. m of residential properties (49.4%) and 21 thousand sq. m of commercial areas (33.4%).
