The EU has mobilized emergency aid for the temporary storage of Ukrainian grain within existing programs, amounting to up to 1 million euros.
This was reported by the EU Embassy in Ukraine following a meeting between ambassadors and representatives of EU member states with the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Taras Vysotskyi.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Black Sea export corridor.
The Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Gediminas Navickas, expressed support in overcoming the challenges.
In his opinion, efforts should continue to establish temporary storage facilities, find possible financing options for farmers, and increase the capacity of alternative export routes within the EU’s “Solidarity Lanes” initiative.
Partners assured that they are ready to continue supporting Ukraine and strengthen coordination to bolster the agricultural sector.
- Throughout July, Russian troops carried out 67 attacks on Ukrainian maritime port facilities. Since the beginning of August, five more strikes have been recorded.
- Minister Vysotskyi reported that due to constant Russian attacks on the port infrastructure of Greater Odesa, Ukraine could face an acute shortage of storage space for a harvest of 11 million tons as early as this autumn.
- Furthermore, over 30 million tons of Ukrainian agricultural products may not reach global markets due to the blockade of maritime exports.
