AI helps find more bugs
Google states that AI-powered security tools have already helped identify and fix dozens of errors. This is one reason why the company is transitioning to a bi-weekly update cycle starting in September, with additional interim security fixes.Furthermore, Google is considering implementing two weekly security updates to counter ‘rapid AI-driven attacks’. Such attacks can exploit vulnerabilities that emerge after patches are released but before they are installed on user devices. The company aims to reduce the risks of so-called N-day attacks by shifting the update burden from users to the browser itself.
Automatic restart at a convenient moment
In addition to dynamic patching, Google is working on identifying ‘optimal moments’ for automatically restarting Chrome with guaranteed seamless session restoration. Chrome version 150 for macOS already includes a feature that leverages the system’s state where applications continue to run in the background even after all windows are closed.
